3. Sam’s Club Partners with Pet Services to Provide Members with More Affordable Healthcare.

Pain Point: A big number of people struggle to find affordable healthcare

  • 3 in 10 people say they are willing to commit a crime to afford health care for their pet. source

80% of pet owners say that their financial state was a barrier to getting preventive care for their pets. source

Insights: How Might We increase the accessibility of pet services for pet owners at Sam’s Club?

  • Walmart installed pet clinics in some of their stores and claims their services are 40% to 60% less than normal service costs. source

  • Petco adds full hospital clinics in their stores. source

Solution: Providing more affordable pet health care with partnerships with Pet Services.
Sam’s Club could partner with pet services like veterinarian clinics, grooming centers, training schools, etc. in order to provide more benefits and access to their members. Sam’s Club members would receive exclusive discounts and promotions from those external services. This would overall increase engagement for both the pet service and Sam’s Club.

Who, What, Wow:

Feedback from the Director of Innovation: My team also decided to present this idea to Jonathan Saffian and he seemed to be really open to the idea. Furthermore, he said he was thinking about doing something similar and how he would love for us to dive deeper into what the whole partnership idea would look like.
